Description

Get the clearest, most comprehensive picture of Newport, a.k.a. "The City-By-The-Sea" through the experiences only a 'Native Newporter' can provide. As our guest, you will learn about its colonial history, its religious and racial diversity, as well as view the City's remarkable architecture and landscapes.  This Tour has a duration of 2.5 - 3 hours, depending on weather, traffic, and time spent walking, including about 1 hour spent touring a Mansion.

Meet your guide at the Newport Visitor and Information Center, located at 23 Americas Cup Avenue, at a reserved time and get ready to have a pleasant, entertaining, and fun time experiencing the 'Newport Life'.

The Tour is primarily a drive through and around the City, viewing most of its major scenic and historical aspects, as well as areas 'off the beaten path'.  For example, The famous Cliff Walk, designated as the City's and State's top tourist attraction.  It is a 3.5 mile National Recreation Trail that traverses the shoreline and most of Newport's famous gilded age Mansions. We will also wander through a former colonial neighborhood, or less commonly known as the Quaker Lands, which is the oldest neighborhood in Newport. Many of the existing homes were occupied by British and then French forces during the mid-eighteenth century. We will also roll through a lovely neighborhood once the summer haven for artists, writers and other well healed socialites from the mid-nineteenth century.  The Tour continues through the Bellevue Avenue area, known world-wide for it's remarkable Mansions created by the wealth amassed during the industrial revolution. Finally, we will cruise the famous 10 mile Ocean Drive, which was transformed from farmland, during the colonial era, into the location of 'Gentleman Farms', and later to the upscale neighborhood that exists today.  A ticket is included to Tour your choice of one of the following Mansions: The Elms, the Marble House, Rosecliff, Chateau-Sur-Mer, and of course the largest Mansion in Newport, the 70 plus room ‘summer cottage‘ called the Breakers, built for the Vanderbilt family in 1895.  Furthermore, should you desire and the weather permit, the Tour may involve a small amount of walking to visit areas that are only accessible by foot, or more conducive for photography, while breathing in the clean and healthy air that the Atlantic coast provides,.  We return to the original departure point after the Tour's completion.
