Event: Shakespeare Studies: The Tempest

One of the most anticipated films scheduled for release in 2010 is Julie Taymor’s The Tempest. In this Miramax version of Shakespeare’s last play, the gender of Prospero has been changed to Prospera; and Helen Mirren will play the role of the magician marooned on an island after a shipwreck. The star-filled cast also includes Jeremy Irons. Before the movie comes out should be a good time for us to re-read the play and to have a lecture by our Shakespeare scholar, Helen Whall.
